CLIMBING CADAIR IDRIS (PENYGADAIR) IN SNOWDONIA NATIONAL PARK
Started out in rain, then fog, but did get a bit of sunshine and clearing. Took a bus from Aberstwyth, got off at Minffordd Junction, then followed a clockwise route starting at Minffordd, then going by Craig Lwyd, Craig Cwm Amarch, Craig Cau, Penygadair (the summit at 893m.), Mynydd Moel and back to Minffordd. This trip can be done in a (long summer) day from Birmingham: take the earliest train to Machynlleth (ends at Aberystwyth) and catch the bus to Minffordd (headed for Dolgellau). But don't try this on a Sunday without checking bus schedules. Why not do this walk from Aberystwyth anyway? It's an attractive coastal city and right from it's center you can take off for a nice afternoon-before warm-up walk along the beaches and ridges to the south--or you could take a narrow guage train to the Devil's Bridge and and have a quick walk around a beautiful gorge.
