RADICALS :
THE 214 STANDARD RADICALS IN KANJI

(The first 55 and a few others for now)

J. Belote            August 7, 2001

The big numbers in individual boxes indicate stroke number in the radical in the following radicals.

The other numbers are the standard numbers given to the radicals. The same form of a radical may be found on this list under more than one number as counting the strokes correctly may not always be easy.

The red squares inside the white squares indicate where in a character/kanji the radical is likely to be located (according to Nelson).

Variant forms of the radicals (mostly drawn from Nelson) are indicated by radical numbers in parentheses. Variant forms with a different stroke number from the "root" radical are listed both under the stroke number of the variant and to the right of the listing of the root radical (the radical in its "main" form).

Most, but not all, of the radicals (in their "main" form) are characters/kanji themselves.
